This golden beauty is unusual among discus due to its lack of patterns, but its vibrant, rich gold color makes it a standout among tropical fish. Discus that occur in the wild have a series of vertical markings, called stress bars, on its body. In addition, many discus have striations and spots on them as well. Breeders of discus have created an amazing variety of discus incorporating these spots, bars, and striations in assorted patterns, but breeders have also had amazing results breeding out the markings to produce crystal discus. All of the markings have been completely bred out of the gold crystal discus, and the resulting fish is a solid golden color free of spotting or striations. The eyes of the gold crystal discus are an intense yellow, and the pectoral, dorsal, and tail fins are opaque.
