Penang Eruption Discus Fish 2.5 inch

$64.95

Penang Eruption Discus Fish are the pinnacle of spotted discus. They are bred to develop 150 to 200 tiny red spots per side. When the fish are young they show almost no spots, but as a hobbyist with patience, your willingness to wait will greatly pay off, and you will have a discus which is entirely covered with red spots on a turquoise blue background. It’s nothing less than spectacular. Penang Eruption Discus are relatively new to the aquarium world. They started showing up in the early 2000's from the city of Penang West Malaysia, hence the name. This strain can reach a larger size of 8 inches or more, and is truly a majestic discus fish.

Discus fish are native to the slow and warm tropical waters of the Amazon River. They eat a variety of fresh water shrimp, worms, insects, and aquatic vegetation. In the wild, discus fish colors are limited to a few varieties which are earth tone in color. This helps to protect them from predators by allowing them to blend into their natural habitat. Through selective cross breeding, tank raised discus fish are now available to the hobbyist in a wide range of vivid colors, like the Penang Eruption Discus Fish.
