Description

The tefe green discus is a unique discus because of the color and patterns of the body. There is not a hint of green in this discus even though the name implies it. Instead the colors that stand out are cream, yellow, brown and black. The body color of this discus is cream and there are brown striations that run across the facial region and the top quarter of the body. There is a mustard yellow shade found as patches near the facial area and tail region. The mid region of the body has small spot like patches that are brownish-yellow in color. The dorsal and pectoral fins of the tefe green discus have black striations and on the dorsal fin, the edges of it are a distinct brown color. The tail of this discus has brown striations that run in lines horizontally across the tail.

Discus are round shaped and have a flat shape to their body because of its height and length measurements which are the same. When mature, they measure about 8.” The fins that run across the top and bottom of the discus reaching its tail makes them very pleasing to watch swim across the water. In an aquarium, the tefe green discus will always grab attention because of the colored patterns contrasting against the cream colored body. Originating from the basin of the Amazon River, discus are a popular addition to aquariums because of their vibrant colors and distinct patterns against the green vegetation.

Been keeping and breeding wild green discus since late 80's having started with Putumayo Red Spotted specimens circa 1989. Got my first domesticated fish from Wattley in 93 and in 1998 I got from at Mac's. I lived in Venezuela back then. After 20 years and now back in the U.S., I come back to Steve, and all I can say is his fish are like a "Old Wine"... they only get better as years pass. Thanks friend!
