Description
Red Spotted Green Discus Fish, this beautiful wild discus is one of the four sub-species found in the Amazon River. Due the random genetics the turquoise green and red lines range from spots to full lines through the body, with each fish showing different variation. The body color has an earth tone golden brown to help this fish blend to natural surroundings in the wild. By selective breeding the Red Spotted Green Discus is the foundation of all spotted discus fish of today, and is I think the most colorful of the four sub-species. This is also the fish which helped usher in the era of the turquoise discus fish in the 1970’s. In many ways we can thank this discus fish for the many strains of discus fish that available for the tropical fish aquarium today.
The other three sub-species found in the Amazon River are the Heckel Discus fish, Blue Discus Fish and the Brown Discus Fish. All these are unique from one another in their own color and design, but not as nice as the Red Spotted Green Discus Fish.
