Description

A golden red discuss is one of the loveliest fish you can own. Careful selection and cultivation produced a gorgeous pattern of solid and broken red lines on a creamy golden background. The horizontally striped pattern decorates the Golden Red Discus’ upper body in solid stripes, the center of the body with denser but discontinuous stripes. The lower third of the body is again marked with discontinuous stripes but not as densely placed as in its midsection. When moving, this fish is truly captivating. As many of the fish from the depths of the Amazon River, this fish will jump when it becomes scared or startled. Although they feel happiest in a serene environment, it is a show of grace and agility when they do leap from the water. Not only will this fish delight you with its movements, it will also entertain and astound visitors.

With a body shape that is almost round and thin like an athlete’s discus, this little beauty is covered from mouth to caudal fins in bright, lively color. Its distinct looking dorsal fin is tri-colored, displaying black, white and red in an exciting color combination. It is reminiscent of an aquatic mohawk hairstyle. The Golden Red Discus’ anal fin alternates white and red stripes. The dorsal and anal fins combine at the back of the body to form a delicately striped caudal fin. In an aquarium, this fish will catch the eye of any onlooker in amazement. It is fascinating in shape and color pattern and is not a commonly seen fish.

    First time Mac’s buyer

Posted by Guy on 27th Aug 2022

Fish shipped quickly and arrived in good shape. All 5 were swimming after acclimation. All fish were good size and very healthy. A few needed a few days and a temp increase to 90 degrees to start eating well. Called Steve to be sure I was taking the right steps. He was very helpful. Very happy with purchase. Also, read all Macs blog info. Best all around Discus info I have found. Saved a few of my other discus with the 94 degree treatment. Great stuff.

Client since 1998! Very Happy with Steve. ...

Been keeping and breeding wild green discus since late 80's having started with Putumayo Red Spotted specimens circa 1989. Got my first domesticated fish from Wattley in 93 and in 1998 I got from at Mac's. I lived in Venezuela back then. After 20 years and now back in the U.S., I come back to Steve, and all I can say is his fish are like a "Old Wine"... they only get better as years pass. Thanks friend!

    New Fish

I ordered a variety pack with 10 discus. All are doing great and eating flake, granules and frozen/freeze-dried foods. The tank is heavily planted and has driftwood for hiding. I have only had them for 2 weeks but I have seen growth. They also adapted excellently from soft, acid water to Midwest hard.
