Description

The Red Cover Discus Fish was developed through line breeding the Alencer Red Discus and selecting out the most colorful red from this wild strain. The burgundy red color will cover the fish as it reaches adult size and age of 18 to 24 months. The Red Cover Discus Fish will grow to 7 inches and the males and female both display the same burgundy red.  This discus fish should be fed a diet of frozen bloodworms and freeze dried krill to maximize color and growth potential. Although the Alencer Red Discus may be found in the wild in earth tone brown colors, the Red Cover Discus has been bred for the sole purpose of high intensity red color. As juveniles  this strain will display their black vertical  bars continuously , as the red fill in though out the body the black bars fade away never to be seen again.   If you are stocking your discus fish tank with unique wild discus fish, then the Red Cover Discus will blend in very well to this natural looking aquarium.

Discus fish are native to the slow and warm tropical waters of the Amazon River. They eat a variety of fresh water shrimp, worms, insects, and aquatic vegetation. In the wild, discus fish colors are limited to a few varieties which are earth tone in color. This helps to protect them from predators by allowing them to blend into their natural habitat. Through selective cross breeding, tank raised discus fish are now available to the hobbyist in a wide range of vivid colors, like the Red Cover Discus Fish.

Posted by Stephanie on 27th Apr 2014

I just received this fish and absolutely love it. It has amazing color already and has added a beautiful pop of color to my tank. I would highly recommend buying discus from Mac. He has gorgeous discus, but most importantly he is amazing to work with. He answers ALL of my questions...and I ask a lot of questions! I wouldn't buy from anywhere else
